Rope Rescue I & II

Course objectives are to provide the student with the basic skills needed to safely and effectively deal with a rope rescue emergency by using the proper and approved rescue equipment. Stress safety practices and encourage team work. The course adheres to national standards.

Course overview includes:
• Introduction, instructors background and experience
• Material handout and class objectives
• Safety and philosophies
• Sizing up and recognition of a rope rescue incident & establishment of ICS (NFPA 1561)
• Operating safe at a rope rescue incident and implementation of a safety officer (NFPA 1521)
• Rescue rope & equipment strength, limitations and inspections (NFPA1983)
• Construction and care of rescue rope and webbing
• Knots, hitches and bends - Rescue Rope and Webbing
• Anchor point and anchor systems
• Critical angles and load factors
• Belay systems including:
• Self belay
• Top belay/Independent belay
• Bottom belay
• Ascending and descending a fixed rope & Rappelling
• Lowering and raising systems – (4:1 mechanical system & Z-RIG system)
• Self rescues
• Victim rescue – lowering and “pick-offs”
• Victim rescue – aerial ladder evolution
